You can’t go wrong with tasty tacos and cheap margaritas, which is why we visited Taqueria La Ventana in Addison this weekend. Located on Beltline Rd in Addison, and connected to Snuffer’s Restaurant, this little taqueria is located in the heart of one of Dallas’ premier restaurant rows.
When you drive into the parking lot and begin what can sometimes be a difficult search for a spot, you will undoubtedly notice the large patio area that extends around the front and side of the building. This is a great place to hang out during the warm Spring and Summer days that we experience in the Metroplex. But, since it was a tad chilly during our visit, we opted to eat inside.
The decor of Taqueria La Ventana is quite charming. Wood and brick provide for a warm and inviting feel, while the bright colors convey a sense of revelry. We were ready to head inside!
Prior to heading inside though, our group stopped to examine the menu board conveniently posted outside the front door. And it was a good thing that we did so, because once you enter the building, you must place your order at the window, then find a place to sit afterwards. While fast-casual restaurants are growing in popularity, the idea of having to quickly choose something to eat on your first visit to a restaurant can sometimes be a little intimidating.
Let’s get our grub on!
The menu is not exceptionally large, but the choices are plentiful enough to meet your needs. The main course consists of either a taco, bowl, burrito or quesadilla filled with one of nine choices. These include Bistek (steak), Pollo (chicken), Pastor (marinated pork), Carnitas (shredded pork), Camarón (shrimp), Lengua (beef tounge), Barbacoa (braised beef), Suadero (chopped brisket) and Calabacitas (veggies).
There is also an option for a salad, breakfast tacos with either bacon, chorizo or potato combined with egg and cheese, which I was excited to hear are available all day! Because truly, it’s never too late for breakfast.
My party ordered a mixture of quesadillas, tacos some chips with guacamole and queso and an order of elotes, then found our seats.
Oh look, a bar!
On the opposite side of the restaurant you will find a cute little bar tucked into the corner. This bar conveniently faces both the inside dining room, but also serves the patio with a walk up area on the outside. And this is where Taqueria La Ventana shines! Not necessarily because the drinks are better than anywhere else, but they sure are affordable. Both, your bottled beers and your margaritas are only $3.75 regularly priced. They get even cheaper Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 pm during Happy Hour. You can’t go wrong with that.
We ordered a few margaritas on the rocks and a draft beer and waited for our number to be called. I felt adventurous and tried the lengua and barbacoa tacos, both which were delicious. The lengua had a more robust flavor and was quite satisfying. I say venture out of your comfort zone and give it a shot. Two of my compadres opted for the camarón and raved about the flavor. And, our resident vegetarian had no complaints about her calabacitas quesadilla.
For our second round of drinks, we decided to give the Margarita Swirl a shot. At $6, it’s still a bargain. It was quite literally a mixture of the standard frozen margarita with the available sangria poured over it. I wouldn’t call it a swirl, but more of a merging. But, the end result was still quite tasty.
So, what did we think?
To sum it up, a visit to Taqueria La Ventana is perfect if you are looking for a fun leisurely place to hang out and get tasty tacos and cheap margaritas, especially during Happy Hour! Just don’t expect much more than that and you will have a great time.
