The Wild Detectives - Buy a Book and Get Your Drink On

There’s something very unique happening inside this house. Come inside! If you are walking down Eighth St, in the Bishop Arts district, it would be easy to pass this unassuming little house and completely miss out on one of the most unique bars in Dallas. That’s right, a bar. Technically, it’s a bookstore-bar-venue according to The Wild Detective’s website. And yes, they do sell books. Although, I didn’t see a single one get purchased. I did, however, see plenty of people getting their drink on. Founded in 2014 by two Spanish civil engineers, Javier García del Moral and Paco Vique, The Wild Detectives blended their two passions. Reading and Drinking. And, I’m so glad that they did. If you order a book from them, they won’t charge you shipping AND they’ll buy you a drink . Honestly, by mixing these genres together they created one of the most relaxing bar experiences that I have ever enjoyed. Let’s take a moment to break this down.

San Martin Bakery and Cafe - Latin America in Uptown

This bright and airy dining area will transport you to Central America! San Martin Bakery and Cafe came to Dallas in December of 2018, but don’t think of this place as new. There’s years of experience that comes with this place. Originally opened in Guatemala in 1974, this family-owned business has over 40 locations in Latin America. The location in Uptown is their first in the United States, however. And, thank goodness they came! Whether you are coming for baked goods, breakfast , lunch or dinner , you will not be disappointed. In fact, the only disappointing thing about your experience will be trying to find a parking space and the wait for a table. Luckily, the complimentary valet service can help you with the parking. The Long Weekend – Big Bend

The end of the Lost Mine Trail is totally worth the hike Welcome to The Long Weekend . Our segment dedicated to those great DFW weekends when you have a little more time on your hands and you want to just get away for awhile. This Long Weekend trip takes us to the Big Bend region of Texas. Big Bend is the region of West Texas along the border with Mexico, just north of the large bend in the Rio Grande. It’s that first big bump along the Southern border of Texas that you see when looking at a map. It’s sparsely populated, dry, rocky, filled with mountains and is just absolutely beautiful. If you have never taken a trip to Big Bend, just know that there is too much to do in a single day, weekend or week. But, no matter how much time you spend there, it will have a life altering affect.
